SPLINT REMOVAL (6 Weeks!)

IT'S OUT! IT'S OUT! IT'S OUT! IT'S OUT! IT'S OUT! IT'S OUT!

Haaaalelujah. Haaaaalelujah. I'm still hearing the angels sing. Here's the skinny:
  • Splints smell so so so bad when they come out
  • I don't have to see my surgeon for 3 months
  • I can start to chew
  • My orthodontist put in a smaller wire on the bottom without hooks
  • I'm getting a new wire in on the top without hooks on February 25th
  • I don't have any rubberbands right now (until my next appointment)
  • ...Did I mention that the splint STINKS? Seriously. If you have stank breff after surgery, this is the cause. And she said mine was cleaner than most! I'd hate to see/smell a dirty one
THIS DAY CALLS FOR A VIDEO

I probably will not update my blogs until after appointments from now on.. Unless something really awesome happens. If you guys have any questions, I'll make a new post just for that!

Remember: For all of you about to go through surgery, the most important thing to have isn't a drool bib, it's a positive attitude. Keep your head up, beautiful.

Congrats! What a great feeling!
Woohoo!!!! Great news Meagan :)
Congrats how do u like your new look?
Great post Meagan! Happy for you :)
Hope you had a good nap ;) Loving the smile
I remember you had a post awhile ago (before surgery) about how you were happy with your appearance until you spoke. Well, girl...I see the difference already! I have a similar bite problem and have the same issue with watching myself talk on video. I just didn't know it that would change by much when surgery happened but watching your transformation really has opened my eyes. :)
Thanks everyone! It was definitely an exciting day :)

Kristie - I'm loving the new look! I can't help but smile at myself in the mirror whenever I can!

Susan - Right?! there's definitely a difference, and I love it. I actually watched my own video two times just because I was watching myself talk. Hahha. I wasn't expecting the difference in talking. It's so strange now.. actually pronouncing words as I should. I didn't know what I was missing out on!
Hey there, Meagan! Let me just say, you look much, MUCH better now. My brother had the same concern with his splint. His dentist advised him not to remove it unless it’s for cleaning purposes. He was instructed to use a splint brush or a soft-bristle brush to prevent it from getting stinky.

Hi Meagan,

What were your movements? I just saw my surgeon today and he said I should expect 20mm rotating the lower jaw + genio. Is that a lot? Sorta freaking out as I get closer!
Ah! When is your surgery? So exciting!! That does seem like a lot! But trust your surgeon. They do tons of measurements and practice with your molds before surgery, so they'll know exactly how much to move it for your specific case. You might end up like me and not have to have the genio after all. I'm not sure how far my bottom jaw was brought forward, but i think it was in the range of 6-8 mm. My upper jaw was moved up 4-5mm. Bringing the upperjaw up helps the bottom jaw swing forward a bit on its own without surgically cutting it, so if I only had lower jaw surgery, my measurements probably would have been higher. So sorry this is late! I hope you see it.
I finally had my surgery Meagan!!
